HP Printer Troubleshooting

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

Printers have become a useful device today, despite being highly reliable in the most challenging and difficult conditions, HP printers can still create problems and not function properly. Sometimes the problem can occur when you need it most.

Check out some common problems below and refer to the self-help guide to solve them on your own:

1 The printer is offline

2 The printer does not print

3 Paper jams

4 missing / corrupt drivers

5 Faded print text

You can follow these steps of HP Printer Troubleshooting to solve your problems:

Printer offline: Turn off the computer and printer, then unplug their power cords from the electrical outlet. Also, disconnect the printer from the computer. Then reconnect the power link to the PC and turn it on. Also, connect the printer back to the power link, but do not turn it on. Reconnect the printer to the PC and then check it. The PC will distinguish the printer and it will be ready to use.

In case this doesn't work, go to the "Start" menu> go to "Control Panel"> select "Printers and Faxes". In the list of options, right-click on the printer you have and then click 'Use Online Printer'. This will solve your problem.

If this also fails, then unplug the USB connecting the printer to the computer, go to the 'Start'> menu and go to 'Run'. When the window appears, type "service.msc" (without quotes) in the box and click "OK." It will increase the summary of various programs, scroll down to find 'Print Spooler', right click on it starting from the summary drop down and select 'Restart'. This will positively solve the problem.

When the printer does not work:

Check that the paper tray is not out of paper. Check to see if you have made recent changes to your printer settings just in case. On the off chance that you have, then reset the settings to determine the problem. Make sure your recently installed firewall or antivirus program is not interfering with the printer. If it is a wireless printer, check your connection settings. If they are okay at the moment, verify that you have assigned a static IP address to your printer. And if there is no static IP address, then assign one as your printer can look for a new IP address every time you turn it on.

Lost / Ruined Drivers - If you updated Windows Forms recently, eg XP / Vista / 7, you definitely need another printer driver to make it work. Drivers are applications that map Windows to your computer (any computer, namely printer, modem, switch, etc.). If the driver is faulty or adulterated, then replace it by downloading and installing a perfect one. Also, update drivers routinely to keep printers running smoothly. You can download and update drivers from your manufacturer's site or just run Windows Update to see if new updates can be downloaded.

Paper Jams - A typical problem with all printers, paper jams often occur due to some reasons, for example dirt inside the printer damaged the paper roller or the wrong type of paper was used etc. Clean the printer with a soft, dry cloth and, if possible, keep it free of dirt. Always try the correct type of paper and any problems that arise due to this will be solved.

Replacing the damaged roller can be time consuming, it varies by HP printer model. If you think you can't do it yourself, seek the help of a professional. Also, remove the paper in the header that you are. Never pull the paper in the opposite direction, as it could damage your HP printer.

Blurred print text: Print content may appear excessively blurry if the toner cartridge is nearing its end, the EconoMode feature is on, or the print density is set to low mode. On the off chance that this is the initial situation, remove the toner cartridge and shake it well so that the toner is redistributed evenly. This will restore the best possible printing by the way until the cartridge is replaced.
