Gmail SMTP Settings

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

The Gmail SMTP server can be used to send emails from any of your favorite email clients. You can send emails using any email client, from any network that allows you to connect to the Google SMTP server. All you have to do is configure the third-party application with the Gmail SMTP Configuration. SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol

gmail-smtp-settings:

The following are the SMTP configuration details for sending emails through the Google SMTP server from any of your preferred email client programs:

Default configuration:

In Outgoing Mail, configure the Gmail SMTP address as smtp.gmail.com.

Full name or display name: your name

SMTP username: your full Gmail address (smtpsettings@gmail.com) Google Apps users may have to enter username@your_domain.com.

SMTP password: your Google password.

SMTP (SSL) port: 465

SMTP Port Number (TLS): 587

SMTP TLS / SSL is required as: yes.

Use authentication as: yes.

If you tried to configure your SMTP server on port 465 (with SSL) and port 587 (with TLS), but still having problems sending emails, try configuring the SMTP server to use port number 25 (with SSL). But make sure SSL is active for SMTP in your email client. Also make sure that "allow authentication" is active for the SMTP server in your email client.

Before using your Gmail as an SMTP server, make sure you have enabled POP3 in the Gmail settings

POP3 or Gmail IMAP through the settings in your Gmail account.

The server configuration mentioned above to send an email through Gmail is only required in a third-party email client program to use Gmail. For example, if you want to use Gmail in Mozilla Thunderbird, you can manually enter the settings within the Thunderbird program options.

Since Gmail is so popular, some email client programs can even provide these configuration details automatically while setting up your account.

The SMTP limit for sending emails from a third-party application through Google's SMTP server is around 100-150 emails per day. However, the delivery limit is 500 emails per day through the Google web interface.

Still can't use the Gmail server?

Despite configuring the third-party email client program with Google SMTP Settings, if you cannot use the Google Server (Host) to send emails, the third-party application may use less secure technologies to log in in your Gmail account and If that is the case, Google will automatically block these login requests and receive a message warning you of the security of your email client program. When you experience this, you may need to enable access to your Gmail account through less secure applications through this link. But make sure you understand all the implications of enabling such access.
